I took an interest in block printing in 2013, first taking inspiration from my brother, Cameron Short, a very talented and accomplished printmaker. I was immediately drawn towards the process and wanted to have a go, so I signed up to print making courses closer to home that same year. First studying Japanese woodblock I soon found my own cultural connection linked to the practice of Sāmoan siapo and ’ie lavalava printing. I now prefer to use lino and mostly vinyl. I’ve always had a deep interest in folklore and rituals, especially stories from the Pacific which are linked to my own journey of cultural identity trying to navigate as an afakasi living in the UK.

Stories about the relationships between the environment, creatures and the people and the centring of matriarchal knowledge all hold much importance to my practice. I love to learn and share stories that would have been lost due to colonisation.
